Important to know when you buy oregano oil:Oil of Oregano is rich in minerals including potassium, iron, calcium, zinc, and magnesium, copper, boron and manganese to name a few. Oregano also contains Vitamin C, Vitamin A and Niacin.
Make sure that the oil comes from Origanum vulgare when you purchase oregano oil, with at least 70 percent concentration of carvacrol. There are a number of different phenols in Oil of Oregano; carvarcol being the most potent. Carvarcol is antiviral, antifungal (as in Candida Albicans yeast), antibacterial and antiparasitic. It has been demonstrated to kill not only Candida Albicans yeasts, but also Aspergillus Mold, Staphylococcus (think food poisoning), E. Coli, and Giardia, among other pathenogic organisms. Another phenol in Oil of Oregano is called thymol, which is an immune booster as well, in proper dosages. We mentioned it before, but let's repeat it here: High levels of thymol can be toxic, which is why it's especially important to purchase your Oil of Oregano from a reputable producer, and make sure it's made from Origanum vulgare only. Do not use oregano essential oil if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult with your doctor before using oregano oil with children. Never use undiluted oregano essential oil internally. Oregano oil is highly concentrated. Do not use oregano essential oil if you are allergic to mint, sage, thyme or basil. These plants are related to oregano. Avoid using high doses of oregano oil. It can cause irritation of your skin and mucus membranes. Oil of oregano is also a powerful pain killer. An article published in Phytotherapy Research describes how oregano oil superseded (came before) anti-inflammatory drugs in reversing pain and inflammation and is nearly as powerful as morphine as a pain killer.
